Saudi Arabia Takes Lead in Peace Efforts, Sends Envoy to India and Pakistan

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has played a key role in de-escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, becoming the first country to send a special envoy to both nations amid rising hostilities.

Following a deadly attack in Indian-administered Kashmir in April, Saudi Arabia acted swiftly to contain the situation.

Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan initiated talks with both countries in late April, calling for restraint and dialogue.

In early May, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel Al-Jubeir visited New Delhi and Islamabad, making Saudi Arabia the first nation to engage both capitals directly during the crisis.

The Kingdom’s mediation was instrumental in securing the ceasefire announced on May 10.

Pakistani leaders, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, praised Saudi Arabia’s “sincere and effective” role.

Saudi Arabia's neutral stance and trusted relationships with both nations allowed it to act as an important intermediary, strengthening its position in global peace efforts.
